FREE SETUP GUIDE

Get it working first time.

  • Which download to pick, or just use the web
  • What's free, and what each render really costs
  • Use your Midjourney or Grok account instead of credits
  • The 3D blocking workflow that keeps shots consistent
  • The Linux route, since there is no installer

One email opens every guide in the library.

One email. No follow-up unless I ship something that fits.

WHAT YOU NEED
  • macOS 12 or Windows 10 (64-bit) or newer. The project lists 8 GB of RAM and 2 GB of free storage. One universal Mac build covers Apple Silicon and Intel.
  • A free ArtCraft account. The app asks you to sign in on first launch. That is how it knows your credits and connected accounts.
  • Something to pay for renders. The app costs nothing. Generating does: ArtCraft credits, or a Grok or Midjourney subscription you already have.
  • Linux: no installer yet. It is the most-requested issue on the repo. You build it from source, below.
INSTALL

Download it, or try it in the browser first

Try app.getartcraft.com first: the same studio in a browser, no install. If you like it, take the desktop build from getartcraft.com or the GitHub releases page. The repo is often a version ahead of the website, so check releases for the newest artcraft-v tag.

Linux: build it yourself (Rust, Node 20+, Tauri CLI 2.10)

terminalLinux or a dev build
$ git clone https://github.com/storytold/artcraft.git && cd artcraft $ cargo install tauri-cli --version "^2.10" $ ./script/artcraft/unix_dev.sh → starts the frontend on port 5193 or the next free one, then opens the app
fileforsize
ArtCraft_0.41.0_universal.dmgMac, Apple Silicon or Intel95 MB
ArtCraft_0.41.0_x64-setup.exeWindows, the usual installer42 MB
ArtCraft_0.41.0_x64_en-US.msiWindows, for managed or IT installs47 MB
Prove itSign in, open the model picker and you should see image, video and 3D models listed. Make one Nano Banana image first: at about 4 credits it is the cheapest test there is.
CONFIGURE

Decide who pays for each render

The same model can be reached through more than one provider, so set this once before you generate anything. These are the settings I go to first, all in the app's Settings.

settingwherewhy I set it
Grok accountSettings, AccountsLog in once and Grok Imagine and Grok Video run on the subscription you already pay for.
Midjourney accountSettings, AccountsSame idea. Your Midjourney plan's renders, inside ArtCraft's canvas.
Provider prioritySettings, Provider priorityOrders ArtCraft, Fal and Sora / ChatGPT. Put the one you already pay for first.
Download directorySettings, DownloadsRenders land in one folder you can back up, instead of wherever the default puts them.
Auto downloadSettings, DownloadsOn, so every finished render is saved without a click.

A Fal API key option arrived in the 0.32 beta. In the 0.42 source I read on 11 Oct 2026, the Fal setup screen is still marked to do, so plan on credits or a Grok or Midjourney login rather than a key.

DAILY DRIVING

Build the shot, then spend credits

Layout costs nothing. Rendering does. So do the blocking first and only render once the camera is where you want it. Credit costs below are the project's own estimates from its pricing page, where Basic is $10 a month for 1,000 credits.

1about 4 creditsFind the look: one Nano Banana image from a text prompt
2a few creditsCut out the character with background removal
3no renderTurn the image into a location, place the character, pose them, set the camera
4about 4 to 15 eachRender each angle: Nano Banana, or Nano Banana Pro for the keeper
5about 16 a secondAnimate the best still with Seedance 2.0 image to video
The habitKeep one location per scene and reuse it for every shot in that scene. That single habit is what makes the room stop changing.
WHEN IT DRIFTS

What goes wrong, and the fix

The face still changes between shots
Pose a mannequin and use Character Identity Transfer, so the model copies the face and you control the pose.
A model in the pricing list is missing from the picker
The README marks some as disabled for now, including Kling 3.0 Pro, Veo 3 and Sora 2. Use Kling 2.6 Pro or Veo 3.1.
A render failed and the credits went
The pricing page says failed generations are refunded. If not, the Discord is where the team handles refunds.
No Sora login prompt appears
In the 0.42 source, the Sora and World Labs logins are kept only for old tasks. Reach those models through ArtCraft credits.
ResetSigning out and back in from Settings, Accounts clears a stuck Grok or Midjourney session without reinstalling.
THE SHAPE OF IT

What's in the repo

crates/desktop/artcraft/the desktop app itself (Tauri, Rust) crates/api_clients/one client per provider: Grok, Midjourney, Sora, Fal, World Labs frontend/apps/artcraft/the canvas and 3D editor you see _docs/dev_setup.mdthe build-from-source guide ROADMAP.mdwhat is planned next

Your account and credits live on ArtCraft's servers and your renders live in your download folder. A new machine is a download, a sign-in and a copy of that folder.

That is the whole thing

A free app, one provider setting, and the habit of blocking the room before you render: the same character in the same place, shot after shot, without paying for the rerolls.
